Scorched Savannah.

Scorched Savannah is showing at The National Wine Centre In Adelaide, Australia until the end of January 2010.
There has been a lot of interest in the images - they are very emotive, not for the apathetic viewer!!!
I photographed this series in the Witteberge mountain range, on the cusp of Lesotho, the smallest mountain Kingdom in Africa...
The photographs depict the intensity and majesty of the flames, and the aftermath of controlled burning on the environment. The contrast of the magnificence of the flames, and the monochromatic character of the scorched earth is riveting!!!
The beauty after the burn is found in the tactile textures of the ashes, grass and rock... these have an almost lunar quality to them.
The series intends to lead the viewer onto questions of mortality, and the fragility of life... as has been said - 'eternity has been set in the hearts of men.'
